The pro-reforms group of the UNP is to launch an intense campaign calling on party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to step down from this week.
A member of the pro-reforms group led by co deputy leader Sajith Premadasa said the group has planed a series of campaigns to call on Wickremesinghe to step down and to appoint deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya as the party leader.
The group has already met with the clergy and has received their full support for the endeavor, he said.
Premadasa together with several senior members of the pro-reforms group are to meet with party members in the local government bodies on Wednesday (17) to explain the need for Wickremesinghe to step down from the party leadership.
The group last Friday (12) held a similar meeting with the party’s provincial council members.
A telegram campaign is to be launched tomorrow (15) where the pro-reforms group would send telegrams to the UNP membership and supporters to muster their support for the cause.
