POLLS CHIEF TELLS OFFICIALS TO ENFORCE LAW TO THE LETTER

The Elections Chief has given instruction to officials to enforce the law to the letter when accepting nominations. A special meeting on the Local Government polls was held yesterday between the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and Assistant Elections Commissioners. The Elections Secretariat said that the Elections Commissioner gave instructions to his assistants to implement the law to the letter when accepting nominations. Government representatives of Districts where elections are scheduled to held also attended this meeting. The meeting took cognizance of accepting nominations. The Elections Chief also advised the officials to reject nominations if any party attempted to hand over nominations flouting election laws. Nominations for 23 Local Councils, including Municipal Councils will be accepted from Thursday the 18th to the 25th of this month
