The programme of constructing stalls in the main cities for self employed people is being carried out throughout the country.
The programme is being implemented on a concept of the President. The Government Information Department said that stalls are being constructed for the members of the Association of the Self Employed Persons. The roadside vendors will be provided priority in the programme.
In the first phase 289 stalls were built in the Bodhiraja Mawatha at the expenditure of 15 million rupees. In the second phase of the programme 534 stalls were built near the old town hall in the fifth cross street at the cost of 18 million rupees.
In the third phase of the programme the self employment complex built in the Bodhiraja Mawatha in Pettah is being vested in the public today. It consists of 468 stalls. The Economic Development Ministry is planning to build more self employment complexes in the main cities in the future.
