The US Government has given 200 million Rupees to develop hospitals in the North.
Nine hospitals in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts will be developed. USAID is the Coordinator of this grant. Initially the Mulankavil Base Hospital and the Oddusudan, Pallai and Punakari Regional Hospitals will be developed at a cost of 116 million rupees. The balance five Hospitals are to be developed under the next stage. This includes the Akkarayan-kulam Regional Hospital and the Weravil District Hospital.
The MOU in this respect was inked at the Health Ministry yesterday. Acting Health Secretary Palitha Mahipala, a Commanding Officer of Civil Affairs of the US Army Daniel Gomez and USAID official Catherine Weber signed the MOU.
