The Highway Patrol is investigating a two-car collision on Interstate 20 Wednesday afternoon that left an infant dead and one woman hospitalized in serious condition.
According to Trooper Judd Jones, both cars were eastbound at 4:50 p.m. when a 1999 Cadillac carrying three females and the infant ran into a 2000 Cadillac driven by James Dunbar, 42, of Columbia. Both cars ran off the road and overturned.
The 10-month-old boy, identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as Ayden Ferby, was thrown from the car and killed, Jones said.
Watts said Ferby was not in a car seat, but might have stayed in the car and survived if he had been.
Dunbar was not injured. Two females in the first car were not injured. A third was taken to Palmetto Health Richland hospital where she was listed in serious condition, Jones said.
