Horry County officials are giving parents a back-to-school warning: They'll be looking for out-of-state license plates in school parking lots.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports ( http://bit.ly/rur73p) investigators with the Horry County Auditor's office will be looking at license plates as parents drop off and pick up their children. Classes resume Monday in Horry County.
County Auditor Lois Eargle says parents who live in Horry County and send their children to public schools there should pay local property taxes on their vehicles. She says they may as well rob the schools otherwise.
She says investigators in her office cited 420 vehicles at Horry County schools with out-of-state tags last school year. That's the highest number since her office started the out-of-state license tags investigation program in 1994.
