An Eastover man was charged with child abuse and Inflicting Great Bodily Injury to his stepson after the child soiled himself.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, in announcing the arrest of Cornell Burns Jr. , 26, of Sandhills Estates Road, said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Friday, August 5th. Burns is accused of putting his 3-year-old step sons hand in hot water causing severe injuries, authorities said.
A nurse at a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, notified the Richland County Sheriffs Department after the toddler recounted how he was burned.
Burns was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Friday evening. Bond was set at $60,000. The child was placed in the custody of child protective services.
