People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says that complaints have been received on the alleged violation of election laws by the government.
PAFFREL has said that complaints have been received about government attempts to recruit some 200 laborers to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), which is to go for polls in October.
Election laws prohibit recruitment to public institutions after elections have been declared.
PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi has said he would raise the issue with Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya.
Hettiarachchi has said complaints had been received of some 50 laborers being interviewed for recruitment to the CMC.
According to Hettiarachchi, the Negombo Municipal Council and the Kolonnawa Urban Council have been identified as two areas most vulnerable for election law violations by erecting unlawful cut-outs.
