Sri Lanka Air Force is to co-host the Pacific Airlift Rally 2011 with Pacific Air Command of the United State Air Force at the Ratmalana Airport this month.
SLAF held a press conference yesterday (19th August) at the Air Force Headquarters auditorium to announce the co-hosting of the rally, which is scheduled to be conducted from 22nd to 26th August.
Pacific Airlift Rally (PAR) is a biennial, military airlift symposium sponsored by U.S. Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) for states in the Asia-Pacific region.
Marking the eighth iteration of the PAR exercise series this year, the event will focus on enhancing airlift interoperability among 21 regional militaries in support of multilateral humanitarian assistance/disaster relief operations.
This is the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Air Force where it co-hosts an international event of such magnitude. The rally aims to enhance military airlift interoperability and to build partnerships between nations in the pacific region, with a focus on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
The five-day multinational exercise will involve Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, , Thailand, Tonga, United States and Vietnam; as well as the two co-hosts Sri Lanka and United States
