Computerization of data of the elephant census begins. Wildlife Director H.D. Ratnayake said that the work is being carried out by the Science Faculty of the Peradeniya University.
The first ever census for elephants countrywide was carried out by the Ministry of Wildlife conservation. Statistics obtained are now being computerized for the compilation of the final report.
Wildlife Director H.D. Ratnayake is confident that they would be able to release the final report of the census next week. He said this help the authorities to draw up a comprehensive plan to eradicate the human-elephant conflict and protect the elephants in the country.
The computerization of the date is being done under the supervision of Professor Parakrama Karunaratne of the Perdeniya University. He said that there is a possibility of obtaining correct information following this process as the data had been stored based on various formats including scientific and other strategies.
