The government is to commence special housing programmes for the indigenous people next month.
The Construction, Engineering services Housing and Common Amenities Ministry is to initiate this housing programme.
During a visit to Mahiyangana, Construction, Engineering services Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa had given this assurance when he met the leaders of indigenous people including Uruwarige Wanniyala Aththo.
The Ministry has stated that the housing schemes are to be constructed in Dambana, Henanthigala, Dalukana, Rathugala, Wakare and Pollabeddha.
The government has reportedly allocated a sum of Rs.80 million for the purpose this year and more funds are to be allocated as it will be an ongoing programme.
The houses that are to be built for the indigenous people are to be constructed in a manner that would suit the culture of the Veddha community.
