The classroom of today is a far cry of the chalk and dust boards of yester‐years. Nowadays, it’s not only about teaching and learning in the classroom, it’s also about leveraging on experiences of both the participants and instructor, thereby encouraging more interaction between the instructor and participants, and also among the participants themselves.
Over the last six years, senior executives from local, regional and global multinational organisations, government departments and statutory boards have immersed themselves in the East‐West experience offered in the Berkeley‐Nanyang Advanced Management Programme (Berkeley‐Nanyang AMP).
Recounting his experience in the programme, Director of Dikkanande Plantation Ltd. of Sri Lanka (2010-2011 BNAMP alumni) Arjuna Obesekara said: “I benefited immensely from the program in multiple ways. The program was very interactive and the participations were high level professionals and decision makers from different countries in the world. The faculty was highly qualified professors and they inspired the participants to think innovatively and gave valuable insights. The program focused on innovations and technological developments in the global market place. It is also an ideal forum to meet people from diversified backgrounds. I believe that this kind of general management program is very useful for Sri Lankan top managers who are involved in strategic formulation in various key industries in the country.” The Berkeley‐Nanyang Advanced Management Programme is a joint collaboration between the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, USA (UC Berkeley) and Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NBS, NTU). This four‐week — two weeks at Berkeley and two weeks at NTU — fully‐residential programme is designed for experienced senior managers with high leadership potentials. Combining lectures, site visits and industry talks, this programme puts you in touch with the dynamic and distinctive business communities, culture and environments of Singapore and USA.
The topics covered in the programme aim to provide real relevance to the challenges faced by the senior executive at work. By actively participating in the programme, the participant will have a better insight and perspective on how to respond to the complex and changing business world, in order to be a better manager and corporate strategist. More importantly, the lessons learnt are not only applicable in the workplace, it is also relevant to one’s personal career, planning and development.
The Berkeley‐Nanyang Advanced Management Programme is also the first executive programme in Singapore to offer a direct link to the Nanyang Executive MBA (English) Programme. Qualified participants who have completed the Berkeley‐Nanyang AMP will be awarded academic credits towards the EMBA Degree.
The Nanyang Executive MBA (EMBA) Programme aims to prepare high flyers at the middle to senior management levels to meet the challenges and rigours of the new marketplace while getting a world‐class degree.
The international participants and faculty enrich the programme with diverse cultural, intellectual and management perspectives. Varied viewpoints and multicultural experiences are introduced to a class that currently comprises almost 50% international participants.
In the post-war Sri Lanka, it is very important to have senior management development programme which offers global opportunities to business leaders.
Since Sri Lanka is developing to be a knowledge hub in Asia, it is necessary for business leaders to get continuously updated on global management theories and practices and the same time maintain strong business networking in other countries in the Asian region. BNAMP is the ideal programme for meeting these objectives.
The next BNAMP is scheduled to be held from 10 to 21 October 2011 in Singapore and the second part will be held from 5 to 16 March 2012 in UC Berkeley California, USA.
