The United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has already handed in nominations for several Local Councils for the Local Government elections. The handing over of nominations of the Freedom Alliance for the Gampaha Municipal Council took place under the patronage of Minister Pandu Bandaranaike. The nominations were handed in to Returning Officer J.J. Ratnasiri. All the candidates of the Alliance were present. There were 24 candidates in the fray. The number of members to be elected to the Gampaha Municipal Council is 18. The acceptance of nominations for 23 Local Authorities will conclude on Thursday.
Expressing views to the media after filing nomination papers of the Freedom Alliance for the Gampaha Municipal Council, Minister Pandu Bandaranaike said that the Alliance would secure a resounding victory at the polls. He said they have fielded many youths to contest the polls. The Minister said that the activities related to the polls were being successfully carried out under the guidance of the President and the Gampaha District Leader and Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
