The Pacific Air Lift Rally which helps the Sri Lanka Air Force to gain international experience on providing humanitarian relief during a sudden disaster has commenced. It will continue until the 26th of this month.
The Pacific Air Lift Rally is being held at the Katunayake Air Force Base/ It is being jointly conducted with US Air Force Pacific Air Command. The Special Rehearsal dealt on how to respond to disaster relief and providing humanitarian assistance operations within the region swiftly. Practical experiences on special strategies of granting relief by air during a calamity such as a cyclone was experienced. Training is imparted on how life saving parachute troops should be deployed during a disaster. Many local and foreign troops are involved in this programme
The Planning Stage of the Programme is being held in Colombo. It includes the granting of orders undertaking studies on environmental changes that take place during a disastrous situation. The Planning Stage is operative with the involvement of groups representing 16 countries.
A notable feature is the involvement in this Pacific Air Lift Rally, of a Sri Lankan born Air Force Officer who is now domiciled in Australia He is Rashmeen Gunaratne.
