A 13-year fire department veteran is facing arson charges in connection with a weekend blaze at a home he apparently owned, Columbia-Richland Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins announced today.
Pierre Shawn Daye, 38, was arrested this morning at Columbia fire department headquarters, Jenkins said, following an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division. He has been charged with third-degree arson.
Firefighters were called to a blaze around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on Abingdon Road, in the Eau Claire area, Jenkins said. Daye owned the home, which sustained about $3,000-$4,000 in damage.
SLED was called in to investigate, when suspicions of arson arose. Jenkins did not provide additional details, except to say the blaze appeared to be an isolated incident.
Daye was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing this afternoon.
