The Colombo High Court has sentenced former OIC of the Angulana Police and three other officers who were found guilty of the double murder of two youths in Angulana.

The verdict was delivered today by a three-member Bench Panel chaired by High Court Justice Deepali Wijesundara and comprising of Justices W.M.P.B. Warawewa and Kumudini Wickremasinghe.

Former OIC K.W. Newton, Police constables G.E. Kumarasiri, Nihal Jayaratne and Dhammika Jayaratne and Civil Defence Force member Janapriya Senaratne. They were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the dual murder of Dinesh Tharanga Fernando and Dhanushka Aponsu on August 12, 2009. The four suspects were accused of abducting the two youths and murdering them in the Angulana area. During the hearing of the case, 1 of the officers who was arrested was released while indictments were presented against the former Angulana Police OIC and 3 other Officers with the case being transferred to the Colombo High Court.

Accordingly issuing their verdict today the 3 member High Court Bench Panel found all 4 suspects guilty of all charges presented against them and sentenced them to death. Furthermore the Court also sentenced the suspects to 10 years in prison for 4 separate charges and also imposed a fine of 100,000 rupees each.
