UPFA OPTIMISTIC OF VICTORY IN ALL LOCAL COUNCILS

General Secretary of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance and Ministr Susil Premajayantha said they were sure of achieving victory in all 23 Local Councils.

 The Minister said the Freedom Alliance has fielded a strong group representing all constituent parties for the Colombo Municipal Council. Their target is to secure power of all the 23 Local Councils for which polls are being held.

The Minister was expressing views after handing over nominations of the Freedom Alliance for the Colombo Municipal Council. The party filed nominations for 19 Local bodies yesterday. Nominations for the remaining local Councils including the Colombo Municipal Council were field today.

The handing over of nominations for the Matale Municipal Council took place under the patronage of Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayake at the Matale District Secretariat. 17 candidates including the former Mayor Hilmy Kareem are contesting.

Senior Minister Piyasena Gamage and Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara patronized in the filing of nominations of the Freedom Alliance for the Galle Municipal Council. Three former Mayors are contesting this Municipal Council.

The United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna have already filed nominations for many Local Authorities. Security was stepped at District Secretariats where nominations were being received.

The filing of nominations of the Freedom Alliance for the Ratnapura Municipal Council took place under the patronage of Provincial Minister Athula Kumara Rahubadda at the Ratnapura District Secretariat.

Meanwhile, the handing over of deposits by Independent Groups concluded yesterday. There are 532 independent candidates in the fray.
