U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, will headline the second annual Blue Jamboree in Charleston this October, multiple sources have confirmed to The State.
U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn will be in Charleston tomorrow to make the announcement, along with State Sen. Vincent Sheheen and state Democratic Party Chariman Dick Harpootlian.
Schultz, who represents Florida’s 20th Congressional district, will participate in the party’s Blue Jamboree, which will include “music, food, (get out the vote) activities, speeches from numerous Democratic leaders and the presenting of the Marjorie Amos-Frazier Pacesetter Award,” according to a news release.
The event will take place at the Charleston Maritime Center on Oct. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
S.C. Democrats are trying to rebuild their party after losing all of the statewide constitutional offices and five of the six U.S. Congressional seats to Republicans. Harpootlian, who took over the state party leadership in May, has said bringing prominent Democrats to South Carolina is part of that strategy.
