A 19-year-old Lexington man has been charged with breaking into a West Columbia home and stealing more than 17 weapons – handguns, rifles and shotguns – jewelry and cash.
Authorities are investigating reports that Richard Todd Olin of McLee Road traded some of the weapons for crack cocaine, Lexington County Sheriff’s department spokesman Maj. John Allard said.
The public’s help is being sought in locating the weapons.
“It’s always a concern when firearms end up in the hands of drug dealers,” Allard said. “It heightens the risk to the public and law enforcement, generally.”
As of Thursday night, 11 of the weapons had been recovered from Olin; six were still unaccounted for, including three that were traded for drugs, Allard said. He did now know what types of weapons were still in circulation.
