The government says 14 ministries and institutions under its purview had spent a Rs.65 million for the Deyata Kirula Exhibition held in Buttala, Moneragala this year.
The government has revealed these details in response to a question posed by JVP parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti in the House.
The External Affairs Ministry had spent some Rs. 8 million for this year’s exhibition.
Handunnetti has criticized the government for wasting public funds saying the millions spent by the External Affairs Ministry could have been justified if it was used to promote the country’s image internationally.
He has added that it was unfathomable to see the government spending million on an annual exhibition most often in remote areas.
It had also been revealed that the Rehabilitation Ministry had spent Rs.5.8 million, Indigenous Medicine Ministry Rs.3.2 million, Public Management Reforms Ministry Rs.4.3 million, the State Enterprise Development Ministry Rs.3.6 million and the Public Relations and Public Affairs Ministry Rs.284,575, Youth Affairs Ministry Rs.4.5 million, National Heritage Ministry Rs.2.5 million, Productivity Promotion Ministry Rs.1.3 million, Cultural Affairs Ministry Rs.2.1 million, Coconut Development Ministry Rs.2.5 million, Private Transport Services Ministry Rs.2.6 million, the Labour and Labour Relations Ministry Rs.1.2 million and the Land and Land Development Ministry Rs.28 million.
The Deyata Kirula Exhibition next year is scheduled to be held in Oyamaduwa inAnuradhapura.
