Sri Lanka has achieved admirable economic development.
Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris emphasized before the foreign diplomats that the government has also been able to bring the inflation under control. Sri Lanka has been able to achieve a growth rate of 7.9% in the first quarter of the year. It is expected to be increased up to 8.5% before the end of this year. The Minister pointed out that the foreign reserves of the government have increased up to 8 billion US dollars. The Minister pointed out that the government has also been able to control the inflation at 5.5%. The resettlement work in the north has entered its final phase after the completion of de-mining the area. The Minister said that the duties of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission are expected to be completed before 15th November. Secretary to the Ministry of Justice Suhada Gamlath and other government officials participated in the occasion.
