A programme has been launched to train government officials to provide legal advice for people who don’t have access to legal aid.
The first phase of the programme launched by the Sri Lanka Legal Aid Commission was held under the patronage of Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara. Forty National Integration Promotion Officers attached to the Pradeshiya sabha Offices have been enrolled for training in the first phase. After providing knowledge on basic laws and legal advice, they will be deployed to provide free service to the public. Chairman of the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka S.S. Wijeratne was amongst those who participated in the occasion.
