A traditional Medical centre will be set up in Dambana as another step towards preserving the Adi Vasi culture.
The centre is being constructed with the aim of preserving their traditional medicines and promoting tourism. Hundred and fifty valuable herbs have been identified in the area and it will be operated as a centre where the medicinal plants are collected. The construction work got underway under the patronage of Minister Salinda Dissanayake. The Minister said that the storage and marketing of the 150 medicinal plants identified in the area will be facilitated through the programme without harming the culture of the Adi Vasi people. The herbs may be used by their community as well as the outsiders. He said that it is also expected to provide some economic strength through the programme. The Chief of the Adi Vasis, Uruvarige Wanniyalatto said that these medicines should be protected as those are highly valuable.
