It has been revealed that substandard petrol had been brought to the country sans a streamlined purchasing procedure. The Tripartite Committee has recommended to the Petroleum Minister to pay compensation on behalf of damaged vehicles. Minister Susil Premajayantha appointed this Committee to inquire into allegation that a stock of petrol imported by the Petroleum Corporation was not up to the standard. The Committee was headed by Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy M.M.C. Ferdinando. The Committee inquired at length after securing information from owners of vehicles damaged by the use of petrol said to substandard. The Committee report was handed over to Minister Premajayantha today.
While recommending the payment of compensation to consumers whose vehicles had been damaged by the use of this petrol, the Committee also recommended recover this financial loss from the supplier company.
