President Rajapaksa has referred to the colossal sum of money allocated by the Government on behalf of the Health Service. The purpose was to provide a quality and efficient medical service. The President made this reference at a meeting to solicit views and proposals of the Health Ministry and the Indigenous Medicine Ministry in the formulation of the 2012 budget. It was held at Temple Trees. The President said that the number of drugs imported can be reduced by producing them locally. Attention was focused on the programme related to the distribution of medicinal drugs. Discussions centred on the programmes mooted to provide a quality and efficient health service in relation to achieving the millennium development goals according to the Mahinda Chinthana.
The Health and the Indigenous Medicine Ministries made submissions on the programmes planned for implementation next year. Ministers Maithripala Sirisena and Salinda Dissanayake and Deputy Ministers Lalith Dissanayake and Pandu Bandaranaike were present.
