The new fuel storage tank of the Colombo Harbour has been opened. It was opened by Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena this morning. The fuel storage tank at the Harbour was built about 80 years during the colonial rule. Since then there had been 12 tanks. The newest addition will increase the number of fuel storage tanks to 13. The total capacity of the tanks now stands at 35 thousand metric tons. The latest fuel tank is the first to be built locally. The expenditure incurred by the Ports Authority on the tank is 90 million rupees.
Expressing his views on the occasion, Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said the new oil tank will bring an additional income to the local economy. Chairman of the Ports Authority Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema and many officials were present at the opening ceremony.
