The UNP has resolved the dispute between UNP Colombo District parliamentarian Mohan Lal Grero and the party leadership.
Grero called on the party leadership to keep the mayoral candidature for the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council open and last Saturday gave an ultimatum saying he would be forced to take stern action if his request did not receive a positive response.
Grero met with party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and secretary Tissa Attanayake today.
The UNP has named former mayor Sunethra Ranasinghe as the mayoral candidate for the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal and the party said that her appointment was made by the party’s nomination board.
During today’s meeting, the party leadership had agreed to four of five demands put forward by Grero.
Among the demands agreed to by the party leadership are the appointment of the person who polls the highest preferential votes as the deputy mayor and in the event of a UNP victory the resources in the council will be equally distributed to the Dehiwala and Ratmalana electorates.
