Dengue is on the rise. As such Health authorities have warned the public to be more cautious. The number of gangue patients during the first eight months of this year has reached 16 thousand 551. 121 of them had succumbed to the disease. The Epidemiological Unit revealed that the higher number of dengue cases had been reported from the Colombo District. The number was 6563, while the number of lives claimed by the disease from the District was 58. The disease is also prevalent in the Gampaha District. The number of cases this year is high when compared to the corresponding period last year. This is attributed to the intermittent rain experienced in the country. The Health authorities have called on the public to keep their environment clean. They said that public support was imperative as the Government alone cannot handle this issue.
