Minister Maithripala Sirisena has pointed out that the United National Party has now broken into pieces when the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was commemorating its 60th Anniversary with great pride. The Minister said that political parties were being today launched to meet personal agendas. But it was not so with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Some are saying that both the United National Party and Sri Lanka Freedom Party are the same. The Minister emphasized that it was not so. He noted that when the UNP ruled the country for 16 years from 1978, the SLFP in the Opposition became very strong. But when it ruled for 16 years, it was not so with the UNP. The party has fragmented into pieces and there is no opposition today.
The Minister was speaking at inaugural meeting of a series planned countrywide in parallel to the 60th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The meeting of the Rambukkana electorate was organized in the Rambukkana town. The meeting was arranged by the Rambukkana SLFP organizer and Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa Mahipala Herath. 10 Senior members were honoured on this occasion. Northwestern Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe and Parliamentarian Kanaka Herath were among those present.
