A kitchen fire caused nearly $50,000 in damage to a Columbia home this afternoon.
A fire started from food left on a hot stove around 2:30 p.m. at a home on the 6700 block of Valley Brook Road, said Brick Lewis, a spokesman for the Columbia Fire Department. The 1,400-square-foot, one-story home is off Two Notch Road near the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
One person was home when the fire started and escaped without injury.
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, Lewis said. Noelle Phillips
