Moonshine is certainly not new to South Carolina.
But selling it in the local Sams Club?
Ole Smoky Moonshine, out of Gatlinburg, Tenn., sees cash in mash, and it is selling its moonshine for about $22 a bottle at Sams Clubs in five states, including South Carolina, with plans to expand sales to the rest of the nation by next year.
You also can pick up the government-sanctioned beverage in a variety of package stores, including Kroger on Two Notch Road, owner Joe Baker said.
While the moonshine corn whiskey is brewed using 200-year-old family recipes and packaged in traditional 750-milliliter Mason jars, this is not your grandfathers moonshine distilled deep in the woods by country rascals looking to skirt the law. (Think Uncle Jesse and the Duke boys.)
