The Kapruka Purawara National Programme gets off the grounds from Homagama.
This Kapruka Purawara National Programme was launched today in parallel to the Diamond Jubilee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the World Coconut Day. Ministers Bandula Gunawardena and Jagath Pushpakumara planted coconut saplings in the Model Coconut Garden at Polgasowita in Homagama. Plans have been drawn up to launch modern 22 Coconut Gardens within the Colombo District in the next few months.
The Ministers patronized in the handing over of cheques worth 250 thousand rupees to Farmer Associations to encourage coconut cultivation and the handing over of certificates. Several machines for the production of coir ropes to enthuse the coconut-based industries were also distributed. Secretary to the Ministry of Coconut Development Anura Siriwardena, Chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha and Divisional Secretary A.J. Karunaratne were present on the occasion.
