President Rajapaksa has pointed out that the benefits of the freedom which had been gained after many years should be utilised to its maximum. He said the final aim was the development of the country.
The President was addressing a meeting that was held at the Temple Trees to create awareness with regard to the 2018 Commonwealth Games bid by Sri Lanka. Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage who also participated in this discussion had stated that several countries have already expressed their support towards Sri Lanka’s bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Hambantota. The Minister clarified the action plan initiated in this respect.
Submissions were made in respect of the Action Plan aimed at identifying athletes and directing them to training. The Sports Minister expressed his gratitude to the President for the 4.5 Billion Rupee allocation made for the development of infrastructure in the sports sector. It was Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral who presented details on the task so far discharged by the Commonwealth Sports Committee. The 2018 Commonwealth Games host country is slated to be announced on the 11th of November this year.
