The UNP says there were doubts over the failure on the part of the Petroleum Industries Minister to implement the recommendations of the committee that probed in the importing of sub standard fuel to the country.
UNP Spokesperson and parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathileka told a press conference that there were doubts on whether an invisible political force was the cause for the petroleum crisis.
He said the committee had recommended that the losses amounting to millions of rupees due to the importing of sub standard fuel be recovered from the company that supplied the fuel or the officials who were involved in importing the stock.
He added that the authorities have failed to take any action as recommended by the committee.
Karunathileka observed that Petroleum Minister Susil Premajayanth has pledged to take stern action against the persons responsible for the crisis by importing sub standard fuel.
