Veteran artistes who are dedicated for the uplift of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have come in for praise.
The felicitation was organized by the Sri Lanka Freedom Cultural Organization in parallel to the Diamond Jubilee of the SLFP. The ceremony was organized at the BMICH under the auspices of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. The Arts Forum, affiliated to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was launched jointly by artistes such as T.B. Tennekoon and T.B. Ilangaratne in 1956 instituting a cultural renaissance in the island. The Sri Lanka Freedom Cultural Organisation was born following the initiative taken by artistes such as Ariyawansa Pathiraja, Dommie Jayawardena, Alfred Edirimanne and G.S.B. Rani Perera. Since then veteran artistes were able to steer the party towards a people’s friendly path.
Memorial Awards were presented on behalf of 60 veteran artistes who made untiring efforts to glitter the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Artistes who are presently rendering a significant service for the party also earned accolades.
An exhibition which included photographs and information
on demised artistes who delivered yeoman service for the improvement of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was also organized. Minister T.B. Ekanayake and Parliamentarians A.H.M. Azwer and Malani Fonseka were among those who graced the occasion.
