Regional Development Bank opens branch in Chenkalady

The  Regional Development Bank( RDB)  amalgamated  to include and  uplift rural development in the provinces of Sabaragamuwa,Ruhuna, Wayamba, Rajarata, Kandurata and Uva its operations in the east , with the  opening  of their  new branch in  Chenkalady  on the 23rd August 2011.

The Chairman, of the Regional Development Bank Janaki Kuruppu, along with General Manager Rathnasiri Siriwardena and Mr Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan- Deputy Minister of Resettlement, inaugurated the opening of this branch at 10.15 am, with the participation of the management and staff of the Chenkalady branch.
The Regional Development Bank, being the leading micro-financing institution in Sri Lanka, plans to initiate livelihood development in the region of Chenkalady . With families returning to their lands and re-starting their lives, the immediate demand is for small funds to start domestic level livelihoods. The priority of the Bank will be to lend a hand to assist grassroots level lending for SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) and micro finance and   hopes to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and other industries in the locality, which are the main livelihoods of the people.
Special attention would be given to uplift the cottage industries and develop them in to profitable businesses and other  emerging industries and services in the area .Addressing the gathering at this occasion, Janaki Kuruppu the Chairman of the Regional Development bank stated that,” with the amalgamation of the six regional banks, RDB is now the only 100% government owned development bank with the largest development branch network of over 250 branches.  Today, we are financially more stronger and hence are able to being a more technology advanced service to over 3.5 million customers islandwide.  Our aim is to give a chance to as many Sri Lankans as possible to gain the benefits of the development drive that is going on in the post- war Sri Lanka, by empowering them at the regional level.  The new RDB Chenkalady branch is equipped with all modern-day banking technologies to serve community in Chenkalady and surrounding areas, with a banking experience as they have never known before.
