The JVP says the government has failed to bring prosperity to the country and the development programmes launched were also a failure.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva says the government’s total borrowings have risen to unprecedented levels and it has borrowed Rs. 410 billion in the first half of the year and out of this amount Rs. 231 billion had been used to repay previous loans.
He explained the mega development project to build the Hambantota Harbor was a failure.
He observed that the government borrowed US$ 307 million fromChinafor the project and had to borrow an additional US$ 42 million to blast the huge rock that was found at the bottom of the harbor.
The party added that the Divi Neguma programme launched by the government spending billions of rupees has managed to achieve only 14 percent of its targets.
Silva notes that the Divi Neguma programme that is aimed at developing household economies was a failure.
