Authorities say a drunken driver struck and injured a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper at a Spartanburg County traffic checkpoint.
Sheriff's deputies have charged 33-year-old Quincy Jermaine Dixon of Spartanburg with felony driving under the influence. A police report says Dixon smelled like alcohol and failed a series of sobriety tests. Test results on his blood-alcohol level are pending.
The sheriff's office says the trooper was working at a DUI checkpoint when a car hit him about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Trooper Corey Wayne Mason was taken to a Spartanburg hospital for treatment. His condition was not available.
Dixon was being held at the county jail without bond. It wasn't clear if he has an attorney.
