A man found dead in a University of South Carolina residence hall Saturday morning has been identified, but the cause of his death has not been determined.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said today the man was Daniel G. Osterkamp, 20, of Mount Pleasant. Osterkamp would have turned 21 on Sept. 11.
Osterkamp was found unresponsive around 11:30 a.m. in a room where he was staying with a friend. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed Sunday, but that did not determine what led to the death. Toxicology tests results are still pending.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death, as it normally does for on-campus deaths.
Osterkamp was not a student at the university.
