Minor tornado confirmed in Newberry County

A tornado touched down briefly Monday afternoon in Newberry County, knocking over three trees but otherwise causing little damage, the National Weather Service reported on Tuesday.
The twister hit at 5:16 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Epps and Spur roads with winds estimated between 65 and 75 mph, putting it in the weakest of tornado classifications.
Law enforcement officers reported a persistent funnel cloud from Newberry northeast to the Fairfield County line, but it appeared the funnel cloud didnt touch down in other areas.
