The Supreme Court has given orders to craft a programme to beef up security at Child Detention Centres of the Western Province.
The Court has given this ruling to the Western Province Probation and Children’s Affairs Ministry. The three judge Bench headed by Shirani Thilakawardena gave this ruling when a Fundamental Rights Petition filed against the abuse of a child of the Children’s Home at Ranmuthugala was taken up for hearing. The Secretary to the Provincial Probation and Children’s Affairs Ministry presented to Courtsa report containing initiatives that should be taken to upgrade the situation after consolidating security at6 Child Detention Centres located in the Western Province. Granting permission for the implementation of these recommendations, the Supreme Court ordered that a detailed report on Child Detention Centres should be presented to all Magistrates in the Western Provinces.
