The Health Ministry on a directive of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a five member committee to inquire into the controversial Private Medical Faculty in Malabe.
Sirisena has called for the report to be handed over to him in 60 days. The five member committee comprises representatives from the Health Ministry, the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) and the Attorney General’s Department
Health Ministry Spokesperson W.M.D. Wanninayake has said the five member committee was appointed following a decision arrived at the meeting between Sirisena, the GMOA and the SLMC.
The GMOA and SLMC have explained to the Minister of many deficiencies and contradictions in the gazette notification issued by the Higher Education Ministry on August 30th.
Minister Sirisena had agreed to inquire into the matter after agreeing to the discrepancies in the gazette notification.
