Dozens of Clemson University employees have accepted the school's incentive packages to leave their jobs this month.
The Greenville News reported Thursday ( http://bit.ly/nTyXbL) that 34 employees chose to retire and 46 opted for voluntary separation packages.
University spokeswoman Robin Denny says the highest numbers of employees who took the buyout worked in facilities, computing and information technology, and student affairs.
The offer is part of Clemson's new 10-year plan on how to grow and graduate top-notch students with shrinking state support. President Jim Barker says adding programs and faculty requires eliminating areas that are no longer relevant and purging positions as people retire or leave. .
Denny says money saved from people leaving the facilities department will be spent on deferred maintenance and infrastructure.
