Minister Susil Premajayantha has instructed officials to immediately implement the recommendations of the Committee appointed to probe the petrol issue.
Payment of compensation to owners whose vehicles had been damaged by the use of inferior petrol will be made from next week.
The Ministry pointed out that the Board of Director of the Petroleum Corporation which met last week has appointed a special committee to monitor the related payments. The vehicle registration certificate, the valid insurance certificate and the revenue license for the related year should be produced to obtain compensation. The Ministry said that if the damaged vehicle had already been repaired the receipt obtained for making payments to the relevant institution should be forwarded.
It is the recommendation of the three-member Committee which conducted inquiries that a payment subject to 15,000 rupees should be made for motorbikes and three-wheelers. The Committee has also recommended that a payment subject to 50,000 rupees should be made for a motor vehicle. The Ministry of Petroleum Industries said that although the vehicle is valued at over 50,000 rupees, compensation will be made for such vehicles. The Minister had intimated to the Chairman of the Corporation to expedite action that should be instituted in relation to officials of the Petroleum Corporation related to the incident.
