Measures are being taken to introduce a proper procedure for recruitments and transfer in the public sector.
This was revealed at a discussion held under the patronage of the President to receive suggestions from the sectors of Public Administration, Public Relations, Productivity Promotion and Labour for the forthcoming budget. The President pointed out that the Public Servants are in need of a hostel system. The President instructed the officials to set up a fully fledged training centre outside Colombo for training Public Servants. The future measures to be taken by the Ministry of State Management and Reconstruction were also focused upon. It was also decided to recruit graduates for the vacancies existing in the Public Relations Ministry. Views were exchanged with regard to achieving productivity targets. Discussions were also held on minimizing industrial disputes, strikes, increasing the coverage of the Employees Provident Fund and stipulating minimum wages under Salaries Boards. It has also been banned to employ children under 14 years of age. The government is expecting to enforce the laws in this connection. Ministers, Parliamentarians, Secretaries to the Ministries and government officials were amidst those who participated in this connection.
