Foreign medical degrees are recognized in the country.
Prof. Ven. Kumburugamuve Vajira Thera queried as to why the creation of such a community inside the country is opposed. The prelate said that this is a bold step taken to provide an opportunity for studets who could not enter the medical college. This measure is being opposed although such degrees are recognized, if offered by foreign universities. He said his is being started by the teachers of the Medical Officers in the GMOA and it is absurd to say that the College is not up to expected standard.
The prelate expressed this view when he participated in a function to distribute scholarships amongst 500 school children in the Kelaniya zone. Minister Mervyn Silva also expressed his views.
He said that the children of rich parents are somehow sent abroad to obtain medial degrees. Those who do not obstruct such degrees, are against when it is to be done to help other local parents.
Member of the Western Provincial Council Rehensiri Waragoda also participated in the occasion.
