The Samadhi Buddha statue at the New Polonnaru Gal-Vihare in Dehiwela was inaugurated by the President.
The Chief Incumbent of the temple said that the President has earned the honour of providing the opportunity for all to live their lives devoid of fear and suspicion. President inaugurated the Samadhi Buddha statue at the new Polonnaru Gal Vihare which is a replica of the Samadhi Buddha statue of the ancient Gal Vihare in Polonnaruwa and the Vidyadhara cave. The President was the first to offer flowers to the statue. He also participated in religious observances. The statue has been constructed under the instructions of the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Kanumuldeniye Sri Dharmashoka Thera to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. The President also called on the Chief Incumbent of the temple. The prelate presented several books authored by him to the President. Later delivering an Anushasana the Chief Incumbent of the templeVen. Kanumuldeniye Sri Dharmashoka Thera said that the country has been fortunate to have a leader who supports the Maha Sangha and the Sambuddha Sasana. The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith at the end of the function to invoke blessings on the people led by the President. The President also exchanged views with the devotees who were present. Chief Incumbent of the Bellanwila Raja Maha Vihare Prof. Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera, Chief Incumbent of Abhayarama temple in Narahenpita Ven. Muruttettue Ananda Thera, The Chief Sangha Nayaka of India Dr. Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Buddhist temple in Stockholm Ven. Kirindigalle Dhammaratana Thera, Minister Gamini Lokuge and former Mayor of Dehiwela –Mt. Lavinia Dhanasiri Amaratunge also participated in the occasion.
