Labor Dept Officers To Strike

Sep 12, 2011 1:13:03 AM - thesundayleader.lk

Officers from the Labor Department have threatened to strike if the authorities continue to fail to address their salary anomalies.

Officers affiliated to the Government Service Labor Officers’ Association have decided to launch a token strike on September 28th, to demand the authorities to resolve their salary anomaly issue.

The labor officers are to hold a protest outside the Labor Department in Narahenpita on the 28th after pulling out if work.

The Association’s Vice Chairman, I.C. Gamage has said the officers would commence a strike from October 14th if the authorities fail to address their demand. He has said the strike would continue until the issue is resolved.

According to Gamage, authorities have failed to address the salary anomalies although they have accepted such an issue.

The salary anomalies of the labor officers have existed for the past six years due to the failure on the part of the authorities to address the issue.
