Cool nights on the first weekend of gator season apparently led to plenty of successful hunts.
At Cordray's Venison Procession in Ravenel, hunters brought in 14 alligators during the weekend. Several weighed more than 500 pounds. The longest was 11 feet, 9 inches and the heaviest was 636 pounds, according to Claudia Cordray.
South Carolina has staged a four-week gator hunting season since 2008. Several thousand hunters enter a drawing for the 1,200 gator tags each year.
