The new Intercity train service from Colombo Fort to Vavuniya begins.

The launch of the service took place at the Anuradhapura Railway Station yesterday with the participation of Minister Kumara Welgama. The new service will facilitate Northerners visiting Colombo and tourists visiting the North. The train which leaves Colombo Fort at 6.50 p.m. is due to reach Vavuniya at 10.50 a.m.

The Railway Department said it is scheduled to return to Colombo Fort by 8.15 p.m. after leaving Vavuniya at 3.10 p.m. The intercity will stop only at Polgahawala, Kurunegala, Galgamuwa, Anuradhapura and Medawachchiya. Ministers Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and S.M. Chandrasena, Deputy Ministers W.B. Ekanayake and Duminda Dissanayake and North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake were among those present at the launch of the service.
